Matthew 6:19-21“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Many of us have become so earthly minded that we have forgotten that there is eternity. So many individuals are so obsessed with their physical life that they’ve missed the fact that they are dead spiritually. Yet still others are doing all they can to build on this earth and to put up all that their strength will allow them to, while forgetting that this world will soon pass away. Being eternity driven or minded does not mean you have the luxury to become useless on this earth but rather you work hard and go deeper in all areas on your life with eternity in mind. Only a man who has no vision lives their life without building. Take a foreign person for example, who has come to America to build a better life for themselves with the decision of someday returning to their native land. They work extremely hard to build something for themselves that they can access and enjoy when they go back home. Because they know that they will not be here forever they send money back home to prepare a space that is befitting them for their return. So it should be as Christians.
As a Christian this world is not your home, you are merely passing by. It is a stop you make prior to reaching your intended destination. For this reason it would be foolish of you to build all your treasures and hide it all at a rest stop only to find yourself wanting when you reach your eternal destination. Being a Christian requires you to understand that you are not like people of this world. Build your treasure in heaven. Hide all of your valuables in heaven because that is your forever home. You are only on this earth for a moment and the things you store up on this earth will not follow you to the grave, however the things you store in heaven will be there waiting for you. As scripture says where your treasure is, is where your heart will be. So be mindful even as you continue on in this Christian journey. Ask yourself where your heart truly is and allow God to expose the truth of your heart’s posture to you.
