Self-control is a trait that we all have. The problem we have in most of our lives isn’t the lack of self-control but rather the lack of action and effort. Once we are in Christ we have the Holy Spirit in us and He enables us with all we need in order to be self-controlled. We are able to do everything through Christ who strength us and if we allow the Holy Spirit to work through us and in us self-control will not be as difficult as we make it.

When we talk of self-control it’s not pertaining to only one aspect of our lives, rather it pertains to everything. From relationships to finances, diet, emotions, social affairs etc. it is important that we do not allow our weaknesses and desires to get the best of us. One thing we all do when we lose control of ourselves is we begin to claim that that is how we are which is absurd. God didn’t create you to be rude and disrespectful or inconsiderate, that is something you decide to do on your own. We cannot accept foolishness and think that we can honor and represent God.

We should not and cannot allow ourselves to be at the mercies of our uncontrolled appetites. We must make a conscious decision to control that which controls us. Do not let anything change you, be self-controlled and strive daily to be like Christ.

Proverbs 25:28

A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.
