1 Kings 19:12

And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper.

Most often in our lives we miss precious moments that God sets out to speak to us because we overlook the minor yet crucial details. Often times were awaiting some form of a loud voice coming from the heavens, or the heavens opening up and us seeing angels telling us what to do. In some cases we look forward to visions and dreams where God opens our eyes and shows us a glimpse of Himself. One of the main reasons most of us miss Him is because we have preconceived ideologies of what we believe everything ought to be and because of this we expect that one particular thing.

This is why we miss God when He whispers or when He addresses us in a subtle way. It is not everyday that the heavens will break open with angels coming at you with answers and revelations. Sometimes it will be a still small voice, others times it will be a faint whisper in the wind or even an eye opening moment from something in nature. God isn’t always interested in those mighty displays we expect, sometimes He just wants that which is calm and quiet. Be still in your season. Take some time and open up your heart for the quiet yet powerful whisper of God. Don’t not become so caught up that you look right past Him.
