One of the silent killers of life is Pride. As the saying goes, pride always comes before the fall. Far too often we do not see the truth and reality of this until it has already happened because our own pride creeps into our hearts in such a subtle way. We usually don’t even realize that we are walking in so much pride, and that’s a dangerous place to be. To be oblivious or just simply ignorant of the fact can cause you more than you ever bargained for.

Yes, there are many instances when we ourselves do not even know we are walking in pride, but there are also times that we know we are but we choose to ignore. We cannot afford to ignore the warning signs of pride. It is that sense of unnecessary arrogance we get that most of us disguise as confidence. The sense of “I know it all” and “I have everything under my control” that others develop, or even that sense of selfism where we think the whole world is about us and what we desire. We should be vigilant and pay close attention to our behaviors and our characters. We should keep a close eye on ourselves so that when we see pride sprouting up we can uproot it rather than just cutting a branch down.

The God we serve is not one who is prideful therefore we cannot be prideful if we are to imitate Christ. Do well to shun away from pride lest shame and dishonor befall you. The one who is humble at heart will always stand firm. They will be daily lifted up by God and they will not see Shame. Be humble and teachable and allow Wisdom to have her way. Give no room to pride, not even an inch because the enemy does not need much to invade you.

Proverbs 11:2

When pride comes [boiling up with an arrogant attitude of self-importance], then come dishonor and shame,
But with the humble [the teachable who have been chiseled by trial and who have learned to walk humbly with God] there is wisdom and soundness of mind.
