Clever Words

June 27

1 Corinthians 2:4

“And my message and my preaching were very plain.  Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit.”

How many of us when given the chance to share the word of God, focus more on what to do or say to create a reaction from the audience or an individual rather than focus on the truth of the Word. Sometimes when given the opportunity to share the word of God, we lose ourselves to fear and man-pleasing, and because of this, we do not even put emphasis on the what matters most. Truth be told we all at some point can get carried away with ourselves when we want to impress others. One way we do this is by using elegant words and highly strategic thoughts, and vocabulary that we ourselves have to research before using.

However, when speaking of faith to others it is much more important for other people to understand God and Jesus Christ than it is to impress them. We’re not in competition with one another neither are we in a competition to impress those we speak to. Whenever we have the privilege to share Gods word we should allow the Holy Spirit to take control. It is only the Holy Spirit who can truly touch a man’s heart, therefore we must allow Him to speak to others through us. It is through Him that souls are saved not through the elegance of our words. So let’s allow God to be glorified through us.

Forget elegant speech, the power of the Holy Spirit is enough and that is what we need to rely on.
