Caring For Flocks

July 19

1 Peter 5:2

Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly–not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God.

Has the Lord entrusted someone into your care? Chances are you have someone that looks up to you. It could be a sibling or a co-worker, a church youth, or even a distant cousin. Most people won’t typically tell you that they look up to you or that you are their role model, but that is how they regard you in their minds. We have a responsibility to make sure we are setting an excellent example for those that look to us. If we look at it from the lens of doing what we do for the sake of Christ it becomes easy and we’re able to do everything with a good heart. However, when we look at it as tedious work, we will always find ourselves in a struggle. When our hearts are willing to serve, we can care faithfully for the flock.

When you look at it with the lens of serving, knowing that everything you do is for the betterment of the Kingdom of God and not yourself you realize that it’s a little easier to watch over those that have been entrusted to you.

Let your desire to serve God push you in the direction of desiring to help others. Selflessly care for the flock that the Lord has entrusted to you. Put your heart into being a role model for someone. Take some time and take inventory of your life, and of those you believe are in your care. Ask yourself what you have done well and where you can improve. Once you have taken account, ask the Holy Spirit to enable you, to take care for your flock.
