Choose Wisely

We all need different relationships in this life, but the kind of relationships we get ourselves involved in is also crucial. As we have heard many times, just because something has an appearance of gold doesn’t necessarily mean it is good.  Many people will appear as sheep but they will be the most dangerous wolf in the pack. Some friends will make you while others will not only break you but also lead you to hell. With this, in mind, there is always a sense of caution that must be exercised when choosing friends because one way or the other they will have some influence on your life no matter how minimal.

There is an old saying that says show me your friends and I’ll show you your character. There is yet another that states that birds of the same feather flock together. As cliche as these may sound there is always a little bit of truth to it. Typically people will associate your character to that of those you move in life with, especially if they do not know you. For example, if Jack and Jill are best friends and Jack is known to be an avid partier the very first thought (Unconsciously) that everyone will have of Jill is that she will be just like her best friend. So right off the bat, there is a character trait of an avid partier associated to Jill though she has yet to meet anyone. Though this may not seem so serious it makes and breaks lives. In that same way, someone is able to get a job in a company because their close friend who works there is extremely hardworking and personable and just because of that the manager decides to give that person a chance.

All in all the friends you surround yourself with will always have influence in your life. Some will advise you against things of this world while others will hold your hands and lead you to your grave. You must, therefore, be cautious when choosing friends. Your friends should be a representation of Christ. They should be individuals who will always present you with the truth and those who will always point you back to God and His Word. Choose wisely and consult God in all your doings.
