Exodus 20:3-5

“You shall have no other gods before Me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,”

In most of our minds, we imagine an idol to only be something that we build we our hands and place on a stool. Because most of us see an idol as a carved imagine we have so many unseen mental and internal idols that we do not even realize we have. Some of us idolize our career, yet still, others idolize the level of education they have. Some also idolize their position in society or the likes of the fake lives they are living on Instagram or other social media outlets.

As we can all see these few things stated above are not physical things molded with the hands but rather things that are mental and within our hearts. Whether we like to admit it or not we each have something that we are idolizing in our hearts. It could very well be consciously but in some cases, it is unconsciously. That guy or girl you have put above God. That parent, whose approval you care for more than you do about what God thinks. That career you have placed above your family and those you love, or even that position you have purposed in your heart to attain regardless or the croaked things it may require.

God warns us about having idols, about placing any false thing beside or above Him. Knowing this we each have a responsibility to get rid of everything we have placed on the same level as God or above. We must bring everything down to its rightful position while allowing God to rule in His place. The idols in your life can take you nowhere it is only God that can carry you through. Therefore drop everything else and place Him above all else, He will surely be God of all.
