More Than Sacrifice

May 13

Hosea 6:6

I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings.

It takes very little work to get caught up in the monotonous routine of life. To be so caught up with the what to and what not to. It’s easy to get side tracked and become so focused on religion rather than relationship, and it happens to almost all of us. Often times we are so concerned with doing one thing or the other for the Lord just to gain some kind of credit and to be able to say that we did A B or C. We are far more concerned about record and reputation then we are with anything else. Take going to church for instance, it is a good thing and the word said we should not neglect the fellowship of believers. Most of us however go to church for the sake of going to church and others of us do it just to check it off our list of to do‘s. So then even though we are for fulfilling Gods’ word the intentions behind it is flawed and for our own self righteousness.

God desires for us to know Him intimately and deeply. He longs for us to know Him more than He longs for us to follow the rules of religion. Simply put if you have a relationship with Him, an intimate relationship, then you would desire to do what is right and remain in His word. You do not need to follow any ritualistic ways because you have a relationship that is firmly grounded in His word and in truth. God is not concerned with our offerings as much as He is with our hearts. Keeping this view in mind, instead of doing things and looking for others to present our sacrifices, let’s put that energy into building an intimate bond with the Lord. Put that strength into searching the word and seeking a deeper and true revelation of who He is. Your relationship with the Lord will always triumph over every religion and ritual, so seek to build relationship because that is what matters and that is what will carry you through.
