Hunger And Thirst

April 3

John 6:35

“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Many people in the world cannot go a day without food. Some tremble at the thought of fasting because they cannot give up food even if only for a day. Yet with all the food that we consume every day our body still hungers and thirsts daily. As our bodies remind us always of our need for food, similarly our spirits remind us daily of our need for Christ. When a person goes without food and water for a period they perish, because they withheld from the body the very thing needed for survival.

Similarly, our spirits become weak and quenched when it lacks connection with Christ. Our spirits need to be in contact with Christ. It requires spiritual nourishment, just as the body does, and we must take heed to this need. Just as we will not deliberately take our life by starving our bodies to death let us also not starve our spirits to death.

There is no way that you will withhold your means of survival from your fleshly being; Why then will you do it to your spirit which will live for eternity to come? Do not malnourish the spirit within you. Connect your spirit with the Spirit of God by daily feeding it. It is only through feeding the spirit that you will see growth in your life. If you prosper spiritually, it will be manifested physically.

Evaluate yourself. If you are growing, remain in the word and continue feeding your spirit. If you are malnourished, begin feeding your spirit and allow God to have His way in you.
