1 John 1:9
But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
For most of us our first instinct when we fall short is to run and hide. Others loathe themselves in self-pity while some cut off all communication from those we know will question us and correct us. The irony of it all is we all run away from the one person who is capable of helping us. We run to our friends, our toxic relationships, our addictions, our strongholds, our family, etc. We become like children who apologize to everyone about what they’ve done except to the one they offended simply because of fear. For this reason, many of us are living and holding on to our sins because we are scared to ask for forgiveness.
God knew that we will someday sin, and be in need of His mercy, so He sacrificed His Son on the cross so that His blood will continuously speak and atone for our sins. He is ever ready to forgive us, but we must first learn to ask for that forgiveness. No matter what the sin is, it is not too much for the Lord to let go of. Look deep into yourself, and pull out that struggle or sin that has been hunting you. Give it to the Lord and allow His forgiveness to work it’s course in your heart and in your life. Lay down what shame and guilt you have and allow God to have His way.
