James2:3-4
If you give special attention and a good seat to the rich person, but you say to the poor one, “You can stand over there, or else sit on the floor”—well, doesn’t this discrimination show that your judgments are guided by evil motives?
Everyone would like to believe that they are great as a person. Although we would all like to believe that about ourselves our hearts often times tells us something differently, which is why we should be intentional in checking on the state of our hearts at every point in this journey we call life.
Think of a time when you treated one person better than you treated the fellow next to them. Maybe the person you showed respect and favor to was someone who held a certain high position, a prominent person while the one you overlooked was a commoner. There are also times you may have judged and shown respect based on a person economic standard or their lack of. As believers we have the responsibility of treating everyone with love and respect. Do not look down on anyone because they are not prominent enough, rich enough, or have enough influence. When you find yourself treating two individuals who are trying to enter the same door differently, check your motive. Is it because you think of one person as more important than the other? We are all children of God and yes some people might have more influence and power than others but do not treat anyone as any less of a human simply because of their status. Show the love of Christ in everything you do and always check your ways to ensure you are representing Christ in everything and in every way.
