1 Corinthians 6:18
“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.”
To flee has more urgency and strength than to run. When you look at synonyms for flee you realize that though they align with running it is a completely different level of running. A more heightened level. Look at these words for example: bolt, fly, haste, abrupt, all these words exceed the common act of running and that is something we as Christians must first understand. One of the reasons that most of us fall for sin is because of our underestimation of sin. We feel as though sin is something we can pick up, flirt with, and leave without any attachment or consequences.
God in His supernatural wisdom knew what He was talking about when He said “FLEE from sexual immorality.” Fleeing is without thought, and without reason, rather it is with haste and abruptness. When sin knocks and you decide to run, you gain some bonding time to flirt with it while running. You can look back and engage with whatever it is that it is presenting to you. Unlike running, when sin knocks and you flee, you do not get the chance to flirt or converse with it. This is because by virtue of fleeing (hastily and abruptly) there is no opportunity to engage with sin. This is why we are told to flee. Fleeing causes you not to fall because you are absent from that place of sin, but running gives sin ample time to draw you in. When you find yourself standing in the face of sexual immorality, do not run, rather flee, bolt, fly in haste and abruptness because that is the only way you can save yourself.
