The commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. The sad reality is most of us do not love ourselves. For this reason, loving others becomes a great burden upon us and a task we all wish to escape. The epitome of love is God. He is the fullness of love. He is the reason why we love. Now for us to really know what love is and know how to love we must first know God. He being love itself is only one who has the ability to teach us to truly love. We cannot love ourselves or anyone else for that matter outside of God. When we love God we enjoy loving ourselves and others but when we love within ourselves it becomes a burden. Let us all learn to love ourselves first and foremost in God. When we have a relationship with God and we allow Him to pour His love upon us we will have what it takes to reciprocate. Yes, the command is to love your neighbor as yourself. But love outside the fullness of God is deceit, a false figment of our imagination.
Before you try to love someone learn to first love the Father and yourself because it is only when you have received love from God that you can truly love someone. Allow God to love you and teach you. Allow Him to give you a revelation of what true love really is. There is an order to things, do not go loving others when you do not even know what love looks like. Let God work on you and He will lead you.
Mark 12:31
“The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
