Daniel 3:7
So at the sound of the musical instruments, all the people, whatever their race or nation or language, bowed to the ground and worshiped the gold statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
Even in our world today we have many idols around us. Idols that have names and idols that are nameless. The difference in our world today is that not all the idols around us and in our lives are physical so we’ve convinced ourselves that they are not there. In the olden days they were represented by statues but in our world today they are represented by degrees, positions, relationships, jobs, reputation, wealth, and so much more. Because the idols of our days aren’t seen physically we have closed our minds to it. Since the idols of our days cannot be touched we refuse to believe that they are idols.
The sad truth however is although they aren’t things we can touch physically they are killing us slowly. These idols have taken up space in our hearts and are blinding us from the things that matter most. We have been so blinded that we don’t see how fame is destroying some of our lives and how some relationship are taking us deeper into the claws of hell. For some of us our desire to please people and gain acceptance from them are causing g us to commit many grave sins but we refuse to turn away because those idols have taken root in the very core of our hearts. We worship politics, academia, celebrities, toxic and healthy relationships, and everything in between. Do not think that because you aren’t bowing down to a gold statue you aren’t idolizing someone, some thing or some ideology. You must be vigilant. Take stock of the things that have filled up your heart and judge yourself truthfully and genuinely. Being ready to remove anything that has taken the place of God in your life.
