What You Put In

Proverbs 22:24-25

“Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared.”‭‭

I often hear people say you become what you eat. Simply translating to the simple sentiment that if you eat healthy you will be healthy and you will thrive, but if you eat unhealthy you will become unhealthy and eventually you will crash. It is also said for each and every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Taking these two things let’s now come to scripture, where we find that bad company corrupts good character. Our understanding for this is simple, if you keep bad company your morals and character will be corrupted but if you keep good company  you will have good character along with positive influence.

Now let’s take this scripture “Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared.” This means what you associate yourself with is eventually what you become. Most often when we change for the worst, we hear our friends and family utter those painful words of “you’re not the same anymore, you’ve changed in a bad way.” Often when we hear this we ignore it out of anger and shut everyone out. However, we silently pick up the character traits of the people we hangout with the most. If you have bad friends you must disassociate yourself with them because they will influence your character even without you knowing. Be intentional with the friends that you choose, because whether good or bad you will begin to learn of their character and if you entangle yourself with corrupt people you will find yourself ensnared.
