It’s Personal

Mattew 16:15-17

“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.”

For most of us, our knowledge of God is what our church has thought us. Yet still, for some, it’s what our parents have shared with us. Most of us don’t really know who God is or what He stands for. The reason for this is that because we don’t take the time to seek Him for ourselves. We take a little bit of who He is to everyone else and make it into our own, and that cannot work. In order to know who God really is to us, we must seek Him. Our parents, pastors, friends etc. cannot seek Him for us. We must go before Him and allow Him to reveal to us who He is. Every relationship is personal and different in its own way.

Take this scenario, for instance, a mother who has 3 children has a relationship with each one of them on a different level. Child A does not build for child B or C and child C does not build for child Aor B. Yes each child has a relationship with that mother but each one is different. The mother being who she is will build and will put in effort and energy but it is what that child reciprocates that sets the bases and level of that relationship. In the same way, God is here for all of us. He has His arms wide open for us but we decide the relationship we build with Him. We decide the depth by which we know Him. We have to build our relationship for ourselves. The question is who do YOU say He is? Not who does everyone tells you He is.

So I urge you to seek God and to do so diligently and He will open your eyes to Who He really is not who you’ve made Him up in your head to be.
