Isaiah 6:5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”
When we have a highly exalted view of God we are able to see clearly ourselves and our sins. When we have a clear view of who God is, we are able to have a heightened awareness of sin. On the other hand when there is a diminished view of God sin seems very minuscule and there is no desire in us to change from our sinful ways. Change is what indicates that we have really encountered God and have a relationship with Him. It is through our worshipping Him that we come to see how unholy we are. If our eyes aren’t set on Him it is very difficult to see the sin in which we are dabbling. When He is not the focus, our mediocre life seems ok, and we see ourselves as holy.
Let us not be conformed to the world, so much so that we begin to live anyhow. Do not be conformed to the world to the point where being like Christ and being holy is considered superspiritual. Living life by the words that the Lord has spoken and the path that He has laid is not super-spiritual, it is right living. It is only super-spiritual when you do not know what it truly means to be Christ-like or to have a relationship with Him.
Do not sink so deep that Gods standard becomes unnecessary to you. Christ is the goal. If we live life comparing ourselves to the world around us we will always see ourselves as holy, but if we live comparing to Christ we will see that truly woe is us. Do not think too highly of yourself, that in turn, you begin to live your life by your own standard and not that of God. Humble yourself and live by His standards.
