January 1
Are you ready for the day of the Lord? This is one of the many questions that we often lock up in the very back of our minds because we do not want to accept the reality of our unpreparedness. The reality that we must live our lives READY. One thing we cannot choose is when we do or do not want to be like Christ. We cannot choose the days we want to be upright, holy, pure, kind obedient or even consistent. Truth be told, to be like Christ means being these things on the daily. We cannot live our lives with one leg in the world and another in God. We cannot serve Him half-heartedly.
As the Word of God clearly says in 1 Thessalonians 5:2 “For you yourselves know perfectly that the Day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.” The bell can sound at any time God pleases, so we ought to ask ourselves every day we are privileged with the breath of life if we are ready for the coming of the Lord. We must also come to the realization that being ready is a lifestyle, one that should be lived in a manner that if God were to decide to come tonight at 6:16 pm or tomorrow at 12:28 am we would be ready.
If you live your life in accordance with God’s word you will not be caught off guard with His coming but if you live your life outside of God it will surprise you that even if His coming were to be announced, you would still be lost. So be vigilant! It is not impossible to live a Christ-like life. It has been done by our forefathers, therefore we also can do it. Do not lean on the excuse of ” I have the time I need or I’ll do it later”. God has blessed you with the grace to do all that which is needed. You have been privileged to crossover into 2018, so live a life of readiness, because you are not entitled tomorrow. Therefore, do not live in darkness rather live in the Light of the Lord lest that day overtake you like a thief.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-5
5 Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, 2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
