Romans 12:9
“Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.”
Be honest with yourself. How often do you love or show love for the sake of yourself? Most often we do the things we do because we expect something out of it. We expect people to reward us or recognize us for our deeds and for that reason we find that our love for people is often times flawed because of all the things we unspokenly expect from them. We love this person because what we will gain from loving them. We love that person because they make us feel good about ourselves or because they speak well of us as well as gives us what we require of them.
We must, however, love with purity of heart. We do not need a million reasons to love. It is ok to love just because. It’s perfectly fine to love because God loved us and He has given us the opportunity and the ability to do the same. Let us love our brothers and sisters irrespective of anything we see. Let us love them because they are also dear to God’s heart. Look deeper into your relationships, and into the way, you show love.
Let it be said of you, that this one loves with the love of God, out of a pure heart and not out of a place of selfishness. In so doing also learn cling to that which is good and hate that which is evil. Even in loving selflessly do not mistake it for loving that which ought not to be loved.
