1 Thessalonians 1:9
“for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,”
When you receive your salvation, you have the power to turn from all ungodly things. Your salvation gives you the ability to turn away from all unwanted idols in your life. The truth is each and everyone either has or have had an idol or multiple idols in their lives. Some of us idolize our position in society. Others worship relationships and individuals whom we have in our lives. Some of us also idolize ideas such as living a lavish life, and this idea drives people into a lifestyle where they do whatever it takes to achieve that ideal no matter how brutal the process.
Regardless of the type of idol, the reality is that you have had one at some point or even in some cases you still do. The joy of it all is that your conception into the Kingdom of God gives you the power to do away with those idols. No matter what your idols are, whether it’s that genre of music, or that guy you’re dating, or even that parent whom you revere more than you revere God, the good news is that you can let go. You can denounce any idol in your past or present and lay it at the feet of the cross. If you have turned to God, then you must turn away from everything contrary to Him. Serve Him and Him alone.
