Deuteronomy 11:16
“But be careful. Don’t let your heart be deceived so that you turn away from the Lord and serve and worship other gods.”
It is very easy to loose sight of the things that are important in life if your focus isn’t where it needs to be. When you remove your eyes from God it is very easy to loose yourself. In addition to that fact there are many things that compete for our attention on a daily basis with the agenda of stealing our focus and time. As individuals we have the responsibility of protecting ourselves and our focus from being rob by the things that are unnecessary. One thing that can rob us of our focus from God is the desire to attain many goals. Though being goal oriented isn’t a bad thing, when we become so focused on getting accolades and gaining materialistic things they become idols in our lives.
If we focus too much on materialistic elements, we will be selling ourselves short as well as falling short in areas such as our spiritual lives. When this happens we begin to serve these different things without realizing. In those instances we begin serving God whom we love, but we also give pieces of our hearts to the other gods that are in our lives. Value your relationship with God over everything else, because when you put Him first He put everything together for you. Do not be deceived by the things of this world. Do not give your focus to idols. Focus on God and work solely on your relationship with Him and everything that concerns Him.
